My name is Roland Juriën de l’Orme, and I was born on March 29, 1987, in the beautiful city of Haarlem, the capital of North Holland. From an early age, I was drawn to the world of art—long before I could write or do math, I was already sketching and painting. I began formal painting lessons at just 9 years old, which laid the foundation for my artistic journey.
I later pursued graphic design studies at both graphic school and the Graphic Lyceum in Amsterdam. At 23, I enrolled in an art academy to further develop my skills. However, it was during this time that I realized that traditional education alone wouldn’t shape me into the independent artist I aspired to be. I wanted to stay true to my inner voice and create art that was deeply personal—art that was a reflection of my own emotions and experiences.
At 25, I started a painting company to support myself financially, but I soon found that it left little room for creativity. I struggled to strike a balance between my work as a painter and my desire to create art that truly resonated with me. Today, I’ve found a way to combine the skills I honed as a professional house painter with my artwork, creating pieces that reflect both my craftsmanship and my creative expression. My work tells stories shaped by emotions, memories, and feelings.
At this stage in my journey, I am focused on refining my craft, growing both as an artist and as an individual, and experimenting with larger-scale works. This exploration has allowed me to create a diverse range of art, so whether you’re new to my work or a long-time supporter, there’s something for everyone.
There is always something new in the works, or perhaps it’s already taking shape within me, waiting to be released onto the canvas.
